Congratulations to Laurie Yoder! Art Clay instructor Laurie Yoder, whose entry, “Travelog” won semi-grand prix Art Clay Club Chairman’s Award in the 2008 Silver Accessories Contest. Her entry received the highest award ever attained by a North American artist. In addition to a 100,000 yen monetary award (over 900 USD), Laurie has been invited to be Aida Chemical Industries’ guest in Japan to receive the award personally. Out of 577 submissions, only 36 were selected for final judging, and only 8 overseas (not Japanese) entries received awards. Laurie’s entry topped the list!

Treasures of TOHO - An Emerging Artist Bead Competition
Bead Me and the South Florida Jewelry Arts Guild will be co-sponsoring this contest.
This competition is for new artist, not previous winners, and 80% of the design should use TOHO beads. Entries will be judged on originality, use of colors, beads and workmanship.
The Prize: The designer of the prize winning entry, the store owner and 1 companion of each will receive roundtrip airline tickets, train tickets, 4 nights hotel accommodations and 2 meals a day for a 3 day visit in Hiroshima, Japan. While in Hiroshima you will visit the factory and see how these beautiful beads are made, visit the museums at the factory and also do some sightseeing. Travel will be as a group.
Judging: Entries will be judged on originality, use of colors, beads and workmanship.

Winning jewelers will be paid to create their designs.Winning designs will be published in a new Lark jewelry book,"30-Minute Earrings."
We won't be teaching fundamental jewelry making techniques in this book. Designers can assume that their readers are already proficient(and quick!) at skills such as sawing, soldering, and finishing. Proposals due: January 26, 2009 (and not a second later!)
