Answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the South Florida Jewelry Arts Guild are listed below. However, if your question is not answered here, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@sfjag.org.
Who are the members of the South Florida Jewelry Arts Guild?
The one commonality among our members is that we all have a passion for jewelry making and design. Our members’ levels of experience cover the gambit: beginners, hobbyists, professionals and instructors. We work in every medium imaginable: precious and non-precious metals, metal clay, glass, fiber, gemstones, pearls, mixed media, polymer clay, beads and more.
Can an inexperienced person or someone just beginning to learn about jewelry making join the guild?
Anyone who has a desire to learn, and would like to meet others who enjoy jewelry making and design, would be welcomed by our members.
How can I find out if I would like to join the guild?
Everyone is extended an invitation to attend one of our meetings at no charge. We encourage you to spend this time to find out who we are and what we have to offer before you commit to membership.
What happens at the monthly meetings?
Due to the diversity of our group monthly meetings cover a variety of topics. However, the focus is always educational. This could be in the form of a technique demonstration or a visual presentation. To see what topics we have covered we have a list of past meeting presentations on the right hand side of the meeting information page. Our members also enjoy presentations from our celebrity teachers when they are in town.
What type of jewelry classes does the guild offer?
You name we have it. Or, if not, just let us know what you are interested in and we will find a specialist to teach it. We offer classes one weekend a month. These vary in duration from one to three days. They also range in student experience levels. Some examples of our past classes: wire working, beadweaving, polymer clay, metal clay, chain mail, soldering basics, and fold forming.
Can the guild help me find places to sell my jewelry?
That is not the main focus of the guild. That said, even though the guild is dedicated to education, we are aware that jewelry sales are a natural evolution for many jewelry artists. So, to help our members get some sales experience we have a Showcase Committee that is always on the lookout for venues where members can sell their work in group sales events. We also will offer a workshop and/or meeting presentation to help members learn more about sales techniques, jewelry/craft websites and gallery opportunities.
