Dear Adrienne,
At last month's meeting, when I mentioned that it was membership renewal time, a familiar question went up around the room; "Has it been a year already?". Well, yes it has, and we all know what happens when you are having fun, and we certainly have had a fun and educational year. Check out the SFJAG web site meetings page for a reminder of all we have experienced over the last 12 months. Let me know which was your favorite meeting. Mine was the history of Murano bead making by Nicole Anderson and Luigi Cattelan.
Even though the bead jar is overflowing we still want donations. The bead jar will be raffled off at the July meeting. Anyone who pays their dues by the end of June will receive 5 free tickets for the raffle.
Don't forget to wear your name badge and check in with Maria Perez-Ferreiro to be eligible for the door prize drawings. We have some goodies from Milwaukee for the door prize. | |
Lea Zinke
This month we are honored to have Lea Zinke as our guest instructor. Lea will be giving a Kumihimo demo on the foam disk loom using hand dyed ribbons and fibers. This small, portable loom is an inexpensive way to try your hand at Kumihimo braiding. Lea will have kits and ribbons available for purchase. If you have a foam disk loom, bring it to the meeting. Lea will also have a few for sale.
Lea Zinke is best known for her floral lampwork glass beads. You may have read about Lea and seen her beads when she was featured in the October 2006 Bead & Button magazine. Some of Lea's beads will be for sale at the meeting. My personal favorites are "Romancing the Bead", garden-inspired art glass beads lined in sterling silver.
Lea is visiting us from Clearwater, Florida, where she works in a delightful, 1930's cottage-style studio behind her home. To check out some of her miniature works of art, visit Lea Zinke's web site. |

Bead & Button Show, Milwaukee Eleven members of the South Florida Jewelry Arts Guild attended the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee, June 6th - 10th. We will have a table displaying members' work from some of exciting classes that were offered. We will also have a short photo presentation of our trip. |

JAG Membership Renewal The dues for 2007/2008 will be $65 ($45 dues + $20 assessment). Last year's assessment provided us with funds to pay our rent for two years. At the May meeting, the membership voted to continue the assessment to raise money for the much needed camera/projector for meeting presentations. Make check payable to Jewelry Arts Guild and give to Adrienne Gaskell or Maria Perez-Ferreiro at the meeting, or mail to: SFJAG, 8780 SW 150th Terr, Palmetto Bay, FL 33176. |
